ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) – The very hot weather is continuing across the Twin Tiers. People are finding their own different ways to beat the heat, going to pools, getting ice cream. However, there is one man that we spoke too that doesn’t complain about the heat. Michael Champlain is a fork lift driver for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and there is a reason he goes by “The Iceman”
Champlain moves food out of the Food Bank’s industrial-sized refrigerator and freezer. The freezer is always set to zero degrees and today when 18 News was there, they said it was a little warm at three degrees.
Over the course of last year, Champlain and many other workers and volunteers moved 11 million pounds of food out of their warehouse. This food goes to multiple agencies across six counties and serves thousands of food-insecure people.
