Three dead, including a 4-year-old in Sheldon car crash

WYOMING COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Three people are dead after an early morning car crash in the Town of Sheldon Sunday.

Police say 20-year-old Richard Sawicki of Lackawanna drove his pickup through an intersection stop sign on Maxon Road and hit an SUV carrying a family of nine from New Jersey.

Two women were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

One 4- year -old was taken by ambulance to the Wyoming County Community Hospital for head injuries and died an hour later.

Two 4-year-olds, a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old were transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital. 

The two adults in the SUV were taken to the hospital and one was later released.

Sawicki was taken to ECMC and later arrested by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
