Tioga Downs Casino unveils hotel in hopes to bring in more revenue

Tioga Downs Casino unveiled their hotel to the public Friday.

Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant Governor of New York, said the hotel will be a destination resort that will bring people from out of town back to the Southern Tier.

“If these people want a place to recharge and have some entertainment at the casino, but also have a great experience with great meals, and bring conventions here, this will be the place they come,” Hochul said.

The hotel’s amenities include a pool, gym facility, arcade, and spa. A PJ Clarke’s restaurant also opened inside the hotel.

Jeff Gural, owner of Tioga Downs Casino & Resort, spent $4 million alone on a brand new clubhouse at a golf course nearby.

However, Tioga Downs Casino has been falling way short of the revenue they projected when they applied for their license in Fall of 2016.

Gural said he expects the hotel to bring significant growth to the casino.

“My competitors all have hotels, if you look at Lago, they opened their hotel in July, and Mohegan has their hotel,” Gural said.

Although the casino is not making as much money for the state as they promised, Gural said it has still been a huge success from an economic development standpoint.

“The only one that anyone should be worried about it me,because I own the place,” Gural joked. “Whatever revenue were producing is still more than the state was getting from us when we were here as a rasino.”

Gural says the investment is all worth it because it is something his mother, who was from Binghamton, would have been proud of.

“Your mother would be proud of you, that you never neglected your home turf,” Hochul said.
