HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — Elmira native and fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger returned to the Twin Tiers for a book signing with his daughter Ally. They were promoting Ally’s book, Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy, and Almost Killed Me.
The book details Ally’s battle with Lyme disease, a diagnosis that took years to confirm.
“There’s a lack of awareness about the disease and the severity of it. So I thought, ‘my gosh’ if I tell my whole story very vulnerably and very honestly then it will help spread awareness, educate people and give them hope,” said Ally.
Tommy talked about what it was like as a father watching his daughter struggle mentally and physically.
“One of the most difficult things I had ever come across, because I felt helpless and I felt hopeless at times,” said Tommy about watching his daughter suffer as a child.
“We took her from doctor to doctor to test to test and nothing was really working. She was getting worse not better. I wish I could have suffered rather than watch her suffer,” said Tommy.
Tommy also signed copies of his 2016 book, American Dreamer: My Life in Fashion & Business.
