ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) The United Brotherhood of Carpenters came together Tuesday morning to protest against Fox Builders, one of the companies working on the new LECOM Medical School

The general contractors, Heuber-Breuer, are from Syracuse and brought Fox with them to help build the new LECOM School.

The workers joined together at Park and 4th Streets with picket signs, whistles, and a megaphone. They demanded the workers there get fair compensation.

A council representative from the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, also there picketing, told 18 News their contractor is not paying carpenters the area standards.

“The area standard wage is not being paid to carpenters,” Brian Noteboom, the representative, said. “The area standard wage is $28.05 an hour and benefits, that’s health care, retirement, annuity, and they are not getting paid that currently on this job.”

18 News reached out to Fox Builders and Heuber-Breuer for comments. They declined to comment on the matter.
