ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM – TV) – The Clemens Center was the site for a city planning meeting.

The forum allowed for city leaders and local representatives to discuss economic matters pertaining to the area.

It was a chance for the community to listen in and ask questions on what aspects need to be improved in the area.

District 7 Minority leader Christina Sonsire said the new sales tax increase proposal will in fact be of benefit.

“We were very deliberate in the new proposal that it doesn’t hurt municipalities, even though it would return a greater portion to the city and to some additional money to police and fire, every municipality would have a net gain.”

Local leaders said they are ready to further kickstart the City of Elmira and the surrounding areas and look to better serve the community as best as they can.
