Streets reopen after heavy police presence near Second and Baldwin Streets

UPDATE 10:50 a.m.: Police have reopened nearby streets after a heavy presence on Second and Baldwin St. early Friday morning.

One person was taken out of the house around 9:30 a.m. after a standoff that lasted more than four hours.

Police are still on the scene, although a majority have left.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)– Police have surrounded the area near Second and Baldwin Street near the Elm Chevrolet in Elmira.

According to police at the scene, there is a person inside a nearby residence that is not cooperating with law enforcement. No other information has been released at this time.

West Elmira Police, Elmira Police Department, Chemung County Sheriff’s Department, State police and a SWAT unit are all on the scene. Our reporter on the scene saw police using drones to survey the area. It is not clear what they are being used for at this time.
