TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (WETM) Fundraisers were set to help support and benefit the wife and family of James Johnston, an Army soldier and explosives ordinance disposal officer killed in Afghanistan last Wednesday.

Johnston’s father Richard told 18 News by phone that two fundraisers have been set up.

One is a GoFundMe page to benefit his wife and their soon-to-be-born daughter in November. The page is to help raise money for baby supplies and for her to attend college in the future.

A second fundraiser is set up on Facebook for a family fund. Proceeds there will also help benefit his wife and family.

Richard Johnston also asked supporters to wear Hawaiian Shirts on July 4th. He said Hawaiian shirts were his favorite fashion.

He asked that anyone who takes a picture in a Hawaiian shirt in James’ honor to post the images on social media and use either the hashtags #HawaiianShirtsForJamesJohston or #HawaiianShirtsForJJ.
