ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM – TV) – The grand opening celebration of Gallery 421 will take place at 421 West Church Street.

On September 27, 2019, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, guests will have the opportunity to visit a cherished graphics studio turned gallery and brand new home to paintings by Marc Rubin.

The grand opening celebration encourages attendees to meet the artist, view and purchase artwork from the collection and mingle with friends, all while enjoying music, hors d’oeuvres and libations which are free and open to the public. A dream is being realized after years of conjuring the perfect gallery for his artwork. A space Marc Rubin has called his work home for the majority of his career – where he shows up every day, devoting his life to one of his passions – creating.

It’s no surprise to those who know him, that Rubin has taken this opportunity to curate his own artwork and be present for those who want to learn more about him and his inspiration. Rubin, an accomplished local artist, is best known for his soul-full still-life renderings that pique viewers’ imaginations, invoking curiosity about the stories behind the objects represented in layers of paint – as magical pools of light.

Art collectors, and appreciators, can now access Rubin’s ever expanding collection of still-life paintings, en plein air landscapes (painted “in the open air”), portraits, and whimsical digital doodles, by visiting Gallery 421 in Elmira, Monday through Friday, 10 am-4 pm and by appointment. Similar to traditional Dutch painters like Vermeer and Rembrandt, Rubin finds inspiration everywhere he looks; his paintings relay relationships between everyday objects.

Through his skillful use of technique and brush manipulation, Rubin pushes and nudges paint into sensual and emotionally charged renderings. He is represented nationally by many valued galleries, and his artwork is highly sought after. Rubin is warm and engaging, a master of his craft who feels responsible for passing his techniques to a dedicated following of local painting students who enjoy his gentle encouragement.
