Gun shots fired overnight in Elmira, police investigating

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM) – The Elmira Police Department responded to and is currently investigating two separate shots fired calls for service.

Both occurred during the early morning hours of September 27, 2019.

The first incident occurred at around 2:27 am in the area of 6th Street and Johnson Street. Spent shell casings were located in the street. A white sedan was observed leaving the area.

This vehicle was later located at a residence in the 300 block of Warren Street. The vehicle was secured. The vehicle was later searched upon the order of a search warrant and several more spent shell casings were located within the vehicle. The casings from the vehicle matched the ones found at the scene. No firearm was recovered.

The second incident occurred in Woodlawn / Davis Street area of Hathorn Court at around 2:37 am. No evidence of a shooting was located at this scene.

An adult male driver of the vehicle from the first incident was detained and interviewed by investigators. He was subsequently released.

There has been no reported injuries or damage. No arrests have been made at this time.
