HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – A historic marker was installed along the roadside.
It’s located off Wygant Road at a former World War II site. The area is called The Holding Point and is a spot that the Chemung County Historical Society has worked hard to get recognition for the past.
“It’s only through the cooperation of other historical societies that keep this information alive so we can accurately pinpoint these historic sites,” said Chairman of Historic Markers Committee Chemung County Historical Society, John Trice.
Trice said their is another marker in the works which will pay tribute to the Italian POW’s and the history behind their existence in the area.
