ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Grove Park was the scene for the New York State Doubles Horseshoe Championships.
A relatively cloudy and damp day did not deter many from showing up for the festivities.
The competition was fierce yet calm as those who pitched played the game with valor and grace.
“It’s a big deal for us because it’s a big family of horseshoe pitchers around the state and around the country,” said New York State Pitchers Association President Jerry Bernard.
Two-time World-Class Horsehoe Champion Dave Reynolds expressed his feelings about the sport being the next big thing in sports.
“We re trying to introduce the youth programs to our new complex coming into McKinney Park. Thanks to county and state legislators. They are really helping us out; big push on the youth,” Reynolds continued.
Both men encouraged others to consider taking up the sport and making it a fixture in Elmira and beyond.
