SAYRE, Pa. (WETM) – September is Childhood Obesity Month and Guthrie is highlighting a local success story.
After spending several years struggling with her own obesity for several years, Bobbi Stockholm, a registered nurse at the Guthrie Weight Loss Center realized how her lifestyle choices were affecting her and her family.
This led to her decision to get a Gastric Bypass procedure.
With this procedure, Bobbi’s food intake changes drastically along with her family’s food choices. Not only did her food choices change, but her family’s activity level increased.
One small change her family has done is not eating out. Before her surgery, the Stockholm family was eating out up to five days a week and now they may eat out once a month.
All together the Stockholm family has lost about 150 pounds in the past two years.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about one in every five children in America are obese.
