Mansfield University’s Military Appreciation Day special to many

MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) – Mansfield University Athletics hosted its annual Military Appreciation Day.

Four teams were in action on Saturday with Softball, Field Hockey, Women’s Soccer, and Football.

Head Field Hockey Coach of Mansfield Univerisity said this event is very close to her heart.

“It’s is important because my husband is in the reserves,” said Mansfield Field Hockey Coach, Brittany Hansrote. “He went to Mansfield University that’s where I met him. We are both alum of here. He has done two tours overseas in the last ten years. its really special to me and very near and dear to my heart. It’s another way to give back to the community,” continued Hansrote.

The day featured military vehicle displays, presentation of the colors by the Mansfield University ROTC, recognition of service members and veterans in attendance, and more. Anyone with a military I.D. will be admitted free of charge to Saturday night’s football game.

Fans also have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative Salute the Troops t-shirt throughout the day.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit on-campus military organizations.
