ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) The American Red Cross hosted a military family salute and barbecue at Eldridge Park.
Lunch was prepared by Elmira Elks Lodge 62. The event was free to all military families, friends, active duty service members, veterans, reservists and agency partners.
In addition to a complimentary barbecue lunch, guests had an opportunity to meet other military families and to learn about resources and programs from the red cross and other community service providers.
“I miss the comradeship in the Navy, said Navy Veteran Charles Simmers. “I miss the job. I spent twenty-two years in the Navy. I had a good time there and now I’m going to have a good time here,” Simmers continued.
Simmers said he’s proud to have been part of this event and looks forward to seeing more events like these with fellow comrades in the future.
