Police clubs get ready to host a day of local barbecue and beverages

CANISTEO, N.Y. (WETM) The Canisteo and Maple City Police Clubs will host its first-ever barbecue competition called Smoke in the Valley on Sat. July 27.

The event brings barbecue businesses to compete and see who has the best barbecue. The judges will be the visitors. There is also the chance to sample some products from local wineries and breweries.

Aside from food and drinks, there will also be music and cornhole tournaments.

The President of the Canisteo Police Club, Kyle Amidon, said it is their way of giving back to their community.

“We put our heads together between the two clubs and throughout the year and each and every year,” Amidon explained, “we get a lot of respect from the community and support from all of our citizens.”

Amidon said he hopes this event turns into an annual event.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Canisteo and Maple City Police Clubs, Canisteo and Hornell Police Departments, and online on the event’s website. Tickets are available at the event entrance on the day of for $25.

Tickets included a total of 25 samples of either barbecue or drinks. Amidon said the first 2,000 people will receive a gift bag.

The event will be at the Canisteo American Legion located at 61 W Main St, Canisteo. Smoke in the Valley goes from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m., but the barbecue goes until 5 p.m.
