The Elmira Street Painting Festival gears up for big weekend

ELMIRA, N.Y. – (WETM – TV) – The street painting festival has drawn hundreds to Downtown Elmira ever since its start many years ago.

It showcases both a colorful and brighter Elmira and provides local artists a platform to create and gain recognition.

Anyone is eligible to participate. Artists can sign up anytime between now and the day of the event.

One local artist said, the festival is always something close to her heart.

“My husband proposed to me ten years ago here,” said Crystal Banks. “I’ve had both of my daughters here with me every year. For me it’s a family tradition. It’s just a fun event. It makes me proud to be from Elmira,” added Banks.”

The festival will be a weekend long event, featuring live music, and kid-friendly activities. Elmira Downtown Development has partnered with CareFirst this year to host the “Ready, Set, Glow” 5k runSaturday night.

The awards and closing ceremony on Sunday at 3:45 p.m.

Several streets in downtown Elmira will be closed from Friday, July 19 starting at 4:00 p.m. to Sunday, 21 at 7 p.m.

Drivers should be aware of the following closures:

  • West Water Street from Clemens Center Parkway to Columbia Street
  • North Main Street from Ferris Street (Southside) to Church Street
  • Gray Street from College Avenue to Centertown Parking Garage

Parking will be available in the downtown parking garage next to the Clemens Center.
