CAYUTA, N.Y. ( WETM – TV) – The New York American Legion Riders Post 442 held a Blessing of the Bikes event in Cayuta.
The overall importance of sticking together in terms of unity and solidarity was underscored. And it’s at the heart of everything that they do.
It was a chance to reflect and pay tribute to those lost.
“I made a list of riders that were killed this season,” said Joe Sullivan of Horseheads American Legion. “We’ve lost a lot of people this year. Fourteen that I know of it’s hard. A lot of unanswered questions. A lot of heartbreak.” added Sullivan.
The blessing of the bikes’ vitality was in showcasing strength in sizable quantity despite much pain.
“I’ve never seen more people come out in good faith and good gesture to show what this biking community can do,” said Sullivan.
The biking community shared a tribute of butterflies released to show a renewal of life and a remembrance of those lost.
For Joe Sullivan and many others, uniting as one cohesive unit is an uplifting factor that both supports and heals.
“We are nurses, doctors, officers. More importantly we are mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. We are here for each other,” remarked Sullivan.
