SAYRE, Pa. (WETM – TV) – Guthrie Hospital is urging safety when using fireworks this July 4th.

Families across the Twin Tiers will stock up for the holiday.

It is important to keep safety in mind during the holiday celebrations.

State records show that more than 1,000 vendors got state approval to sell fireworks during the current holiday period.

Guthrie doctors stressed the importance of vigilance when engaging in celebrations.

“Just use common sense and don’t use them in ways they are not supposed to be used,” said Guthrie Hospital Hand Surgeon Dana Lavanture. “Secondly, especially for kids ,make sure there is supervision. I think that’s why there is so many in kids under the age of fifteen. And parents are not around to supervise them,” added Lavanture.

New York law allows fireworks to be sold to those 18 years old through two periods of the year from June 20 to July 5 and December 26 to January 1.
