CANISTEO, N.Y, (WETM – TV) – The ‘Smoke in the Valley’ event in Canisteo is heating up.
This will be the first event of its kind, hosted by the Canisteo and Maple City Police Clubs.
Volunteer chefs will compete to see who has the best barbecue. The public will get a taste to decide.
There will also be a number of breweries and cideries providing fresh samples. The Police Clubs said it is a way for them to give back to their communities and foster a positive connection between law enforcement and the public.
Tickets are on sale right now at the Canisteo and Hornell Police Departments. Tickets can also be purchased online from the Canisteo Police Club’s website. The event is still accepting vendors and competitors to participate.
One Hornell resident said he’s thinks this will be pretty special.
“It’s for a good cause in the community, it’s a great event for family and friends and a little competition to, everyone knows each other, family,” said Jamie Babcock.
Tickets are $20 and children under 12 are free. Proceeds benefit the police clubs. The event is Saturday, July 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Canisteo American Legion.
A number of live bands and activities for children will also be available for families to enjoy.
Organizers said this event-filled day is a way to unite local police and the community.
