ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Chemung County Department of Public Works will begin work on upper Coleman Avenue (County Route 61), between Kiwanis Road and Crestwood Road, completing needed drainage repairs prior to winter.
This work is in addition to the work near SR352. The work is slated to begin Tuesday, September 17, and will be completed by a combined Town of Elmira and County crew.
It is anticipated work will be completed prior to Thanksgiving. A detour will be in place, and local traffic will have access to their residences, though they may have to enter from the opposite end of the road at times.
There will be Variable Message Signs in place to notify motorists to follow the marked detour. The detour will utilize Kiwanis Road, Greenaway Road, and Crestwood Road; see the attached detour map.
Schedules can be affected by weather on or prior to our work dates, as all subsequent work gets delayed. Please drive carefully through work zones, and provide additional travel time to reach your destination.
If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at (607) 739-3896.
Additionally, the project will be discussed at the Town of Elmira Board Meeting this Monday evening, September 16.
