WEST ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM – TV) – With the proliferation on electric vehicle technology, charging stations are going to become a must for cities to install.
The town of Elmira is continuing an initiative to become a clean energy community and they are starting with the charging station they just installed behind the town hall.
They used a grant from the charge ready New York program to install the electric vehicle charger.
When the Town of Elmira becomes a certified clean energy community, they will join three other towns in Chemung county, those being Big Flats, Veteran and Catlin.
Eric Crandall, the code enforcement officer for the Town of Elmira said that this is a small step in the right direction to reduce the carbon footprint.
The charging station will cost one dollar fifty cents per kilawatt hour and that money is just to cover the electric cost of operation.
