UPDATE: 7:15 P.M. – The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office released the identities of those involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Town of Caytua.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred on April 18, 2019 at 12:56 PM on State Route 13 in the Town of Cayuta. Initial investigation revealed that Annette M. Osborn, age 50, of Campbell NY was southbound on State Route 13 when she crossed the center line and struck the side of a car being driven by Corrine B. Taylor, age 25, of Elmira, NY and then struck head on, a truck being driven by Douglas M Collins, age 34 of Cayuta. Osborn was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Taylor was transported to Cayuga Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. Collins and a passenger in his vehicle, Brian L. McClean Jr, age 22, of Cayuta were transported to Robert Packer Hospital and are both being treated for several fractured bones.
Agencies responding to the scene were Odessa Fire Department, Montour Falls Fire Department, Community Fire Department, Schuyler County Ambulance, Erway Ambulance, Bangs Ambulance and Guthrie Air Helicopter. New York State Police Accident Reconstruction is assisting in the investigation.
UPDATE 5:49 p.m.: State Route 13 has reopened after Thursday’s fatal multi-vehicle accident.
A total of four people were injured and one was killed, according to the Odessa Fire Chief.
UPDATE 3:58 p.m.: The Odessa Fire Chief confirmed with 18 News that Thursday afternoon’s multi-vehicle accident on State Route 13 was fatal.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash. A portion of State Route 14 east of SR224 and the Alpine Junction, is expected to be closed until about 6:00 p.m.
UPDATE 2:36 p.m.: The Schuyler County Emergency Management Office says State Route 13, east of SR224 and the Alpine Junction, is expected to be closed for four hours.
UPDATE 2:08 p.m.: At least one person was airlifted from the scene in an unknown condition.
UPDATE 1:57 p.m.: Three vehicles were involved in an accident on State Route 13 half a mile from the Dandy Mini Mart in Cayuta.
Two victims were transported to Robert Packer Hospital and the third victim to Cayuga Medical Center after a call came in at 12:56 p.m.
A helicopter has landed nearby. State Police, Montour Falls Fire Department, Community Fire and Rescue in Van Etten and the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department have all responded.
ORIGINAL: First responders are at the scene of an accident on Alpine Junction on Route 13 in Schuyler County.
A helicopter landing zone is being established near the scene.
