UPDATE: The Flood Warning for an ice jam has been CANCELLED for east-central Steuben County… flood waters have receded and are no longer expected to pose a threat to life or property. Please continue to heed any road closures.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Flood Warning for an Ice Jam in east-central Steuben County in central New York…
* Until 545 PM Tuesday.
* At 11:41 AM, an ice jam was causing the Cohocton River near the hamlet of Campbell to rise significantly.
The ice jam will cause the Cohocton River to continue to rise and likely flood portions of Campbell this afternoon. Minor flooding was already reported on a rural road in this area. With ice jams, there
is considerable uncertainty as to how high the river will get. Persons are advised to be prepared to take quick action to protect life and property.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
