Walmart is promoting a campaign to fight hunger on a national and local stage.
Locally, Walmart will be teaming up with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for its 6th annual Fight Hunger, Spark Change Campaign.
For every participating product purchased at Walmart stores during the promotion, the supplier of the product will donate 10 cents, or the equivalent cost of one meal, to the Food Bank.
Vestal Walmart Manager Paul Slaver says it’s important that the companies do their part to help those battling food insecurity.
“I think it’s very important for us to be involved in the community on a regular basis. One of the things I think is really great about this is not only do we partner with Feeding America just this one time of the year. But we’re also donating on a yearly basis to these food banks and pantries so that we can make a huge difference all over the country.”
Over the first five years of the event, Walmart has been able to donate 749 million meals and Slaver says they hope to cross the one billion mark this year.
The campaign will run from now until May 20, and for participating products look for the aisles marked with the Fight Hunger signs.
Customers can also make a monetary to the donation Food Bank while checking out.
