The sixth grade class at Parley Coburn School was featured in this week’s Weather Wisdom. In the first group, Anthony asked the question, “how often do you use weather tools for predicting severe weather events?”
Meteorologists rely on both models and equipment daily in order to make forecasts. Models include NAM, HRRR, and GFS, which can help forecast severe weather.
When severe weather is possible for a certain day, that is when a watch is then issued to alert the public. Watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather to happen. A plan should be made for if that event is to occur.
When warnings are issued, that means the event is occurring, imminent, or likely. Warnings also mean you need to take action with your safety plan.
