ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM) – Dr. Scott Noren has announced he is challenging Tracy Mitrano in the New York 23rd Congressional District Democratic primary.
Noren is a local Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and has been a member of the Tompkins County Democratic Committee. He’s described as “an environmental activist, Opioid Issue expert, and Child and Adult Special Needs Health advocate.”
Noren also served in a non-combat role in the U.S. Army from 1997-2003.
Noren told The Cornell Daily Sun that “he’s running because the opioid issue has been poorly dealt with by Tom Reed and the rest of Congress in general, and has a blueprint along with others to prevent more young people to become opioid addicts.”
Noren is co-moderating an Opioid Pill Abuse Prevention Panel at SUNY Cortland on September 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will be webcast and also archived by the University.
Mitrano challenged Reed in the 2018 general election, but was defeated after the incumbent Reed received 54.2 percent of the vote.
