Beagles able to correctly detect lung cancer 96% of the time, study finds

News -

Man’s best friend may be the latest tool when it comes to the fight against cancer.

Researchers were able to train beagles how to distinguish between normal blood samples from malignant lung cancer samples.

Three of the dogs were able to identify the lung cancer samples correctly over 96% of the time.

When it came to normal samples, the canines had an accuracy rate of over 97%.

Researchers say one puppy failed the smell anything, because it wasn’t motivated to perform.

The company behind the study plans to conduct another study in the fall focusing on breast cancer.
