Fire at house in Elmira, crews quickly knock it out

UPDATE: Fire blasted out of a second story window spreading rapidly throughout the older home. Flames and smoke could be seen as far as Water Street.

Fire officials say at least 2 people were inside the house at the time, but all were able to get out safely. 

According to Elmira’s Deputy Fire Chief a full investigation will go into how the fire started, as it is unclear at this time.

Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire at 3rd Street in the City of Elmira. 

Smoke could be seen pouring out of the home. 

The fire happened just after 9 p.m. at a home located near the 4-hundred block of Friendly Place.

No confirmation on whether anyone was inside, or the cause of the fire. 

As of 9:41 p.m. fire crews were able to get the fire knocked out.
