Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) today successfully included an amendment to H.R. 1644 to help expand rural broadband access for Upstate New Yorkers.
The House of Representatives passed the Save the Internet Act of 2019 (H.R. 1644), legislation to keep the internet open and free and restore net neutrality protections.
Brindisi’s amendment directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to issue a report about the ways in which the U.S. government can promote the build-out of high-speed broadband infrastructure, especially in rural and other unserved areas. The report will include a list of recommendations to Congress and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ensure rural areas are provided affordable high-speed broadband access.
