The man accused of hitting two Buffalo police officers with an ATV will stay in jail. No bail was set when Cornelius Caddele, 40, appeared in court for his arraignment Monday morning.

Caddele is accused of hitting the two officers Sunday evening near the intersection of Filmore Avenue and Best Street during the Juneteenth Festival. He is facing two counts of assault, one count of reckless endangerment, and a number of other charges.

“The allegations are that he purposely drove his ATV into two police officers who were on a bicycle,” said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn.

Flynn says Caddele was trying to get into the Juneteenth Festival when the incident occurred. ATVs are not allowed on streets in the City of Buffalo or any of its parks.

“The problem is that you have so many people,” Flynn added. “You have so many people who are milling about, children involved. We can’t have people driving around in one of these things.”

Caddele is scheduled to be back in court on June 21st.
