Police believe bones discovered are of missing Elmira Heights man

News

Elmira Heights Police Chief Rick Churches tells 18 News that the human bones discovered near Knoll Brook Road on Saturday are possibly those of Randy Nichols, an Elmira man who went missing on August 31, 2010.

Police say Nichols’ wallet and drivers license was found at the scene.

Nichols, 48, went missing while walking from 2156 College Avenue around 3:00 p.m. to his mother’s residence at the Villa Serene at 399 E 14th St.

Property owners discovered the remains in a heavily wooded area, and the Elmira Heights Police Department says foul play is not suspected at this time.

Churches says that DNA tests and examination of dental records will take place in an effort to identify the remains.

18 News will have more on this developing story as we learn more.
