What You Need to Know on Tax Day

It’s here! The deadline to file your taxes or file for a six-month extension. If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, you have until 11:59pm Tuesday, April 17th. If you still need more time, you can file an extension, but there’s a catch you need to know about.

Just fill out the 4868 form and you get six months extra time, making your new tax deadline October 15th. But that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook.

While you can extend the time to file your taxes, the government still does expect you to make a payment to what your estimated tax liability may be.

And if you don’t make that payment, you can have a penalty and interest charges racking up for those six months, meaning you may owe more money.

So to be safe, pay your taxes by Tuesday’s deadline, to find out how much, look at last year’s return or use a tax software and plug in your info, just try not to underpay the IRS.

Also on this tax day you can cash in on some great freebies, specials and discounts. Many businesses around the country are offering rewards to weary taxpayers.

Applebee’s has dollar margaritas…Called a “Dollarita.” And at Chuck E. Cheese’s, buy any large pizza and get a free large cheese pizza.
