A Great Lakes cyclone brings snow and mixed precipitation to New York and Pennsylvania through Tuesday.  Snow moves into the Northern Tier from southwest to northeast, straight to the Southern Tier by sunrise. Snow continues through the morning hours and heavy at times with snowfall rates of 1-2″ per hour possible during the morning commute. Southeast winds increase through the morning hours, anywhere from 10-20 mph with gusts of 30+ mph at times. Warmer air aloft allows snowfall to transition to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain by late morning and early afternoon. High temperatures Wednesday evening will be in the low-30s, before warming slightly into the mid-30s overnight as winds remain, out of the south. Chance for a mix of sleet and freezing rain continues through Tuesday night. Average snowfall totals through Wednesday morning of 3-7″ is expected, along with a glazing of ice along roadways and sidewalks.

Low pressure lifts northeast of the Great Lakes, into Quebec early Wednesday, allowing lingering snow showers to persist along the back side of the system. Strong winds continue out of the west 10-20 mph with gusts upwards of 35+ mph at times during the afternoon. High temperatures reach into the low-30s, with wind chills in the teens and single digits at times. Next storm system makes an impact for the end of the work week. Rain becomes likely for Friday with temperatures reaching into the 40s for highs.
