A Steuben County woman has been awarded for her years of working with at-risk families

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Tawnya Hughes, a Family Development Home Visitor with ProAction of Steuben and Yates counties, has been awarded the 2018 Child Abuse and Prevention Award.

Hughes has worked for 18 years with ProAction helping at-risk families to prevent child abuse. She uses her experience to assist children and their families through a variety of programs. 

Hughes is active in all county child abuse prevention and awareness programs and has been instrumental in launching the annual Color Walk event, taking place this year on June 16th.  

Hughes has also taken the lead in the recent “Enough Abuse Steuben” campaign that received state funding for a community-wide initiative to identify and prevent child sexual abuse.

Social Services Commissioner Kathryn Muller said of Hughes, “The sheer volume of remarks in her nominations speaks to her dedication, words like dedication, collaboration, partnership, and passion. Her energy and positive attitude are contagious. She is motivated, inspirational, and comes with limitless energy.”
