ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Walk. Most people do it everyday and today was an exceptionally beautiful day for spending time outdoors.
Eldridge Park was a hotspot today as members of the community put their feet to the pavement to raise awareness for a great cause.
The park was covered in a sea of blue this afternoon as local residents gathered for the 13th Annual "Walk a Mile in My Shoes Suicide Prevention Walk".
Today, young and old and even a few dogs, joined in on the celebration to promote change and inspire hope.
In addition to raising awareness, the walk, also doubles as a fundraiser. Every dime that is raised goes towards prevention and training programs to benefit those in Chemung County.
The event continues to grow each year. What started off with a crowd of 500 has more than doubled over the past decade. Organizers believe this years event exceeded more than 1500 people.
