Arkport man charged with sex crime

BATH, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The following is a news release.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 10, 2018, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Investigators arrested James H. Mayo, age 65, of County Route 67, Arkport, New York.  Investigators responded to a report of possible sexual misconduct.  As the result of the investigation, it is alleged that Mr. Mayo engaged in sexual conduct with a person less than seventeen years of age.  It is further alleged that Mr. Mayo acted in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a person under the age of seventeen.  Mr. Mayo was charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree, a class E Felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor.  Mr. Mayo was arraigned in the Town of Bath Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
