ELMIRA, N.Y.(18 NEWS) - From mowing your lawn to casting a line, and even some heading out to check out the birds. Summer-like temperatures are now being felt through the Twin Tiers many people were out enjoying that warmth and sunshine, some even opening their pools.
"I'm glad the weather has finally changed," Said Martin Redder from Elmira, "for sure that cold weather was just.... I had enough of it you know?"
Science of Flight, a class from Elmira college arrived at Eldridge park to see a few birds. According to Matthew Cuce from Elmira college, he says this is the best day they've had to get out and go bird watching. "This is our first time here, beautiful day I think it's going to be 85 and sunny so hopefully we see some nice birds."
Most of the students were glad to finally be able to get out after being cooped up inside over the last few months given how cold and gray it's been.
Nick Neary, also a student from Elmira College says it's been tough trying to stay inside, "It's unbelievable, we spent 6 months in a hockey rink, so it's a nice transition to go out and get to go bird watching today, so just enjoying the spring weather."
It has been quite the stretch of below normal temperatures, three of the last four months have ended cooler than normal with the exception of February. February actually ended 5 degrees warmer than average.
If you're wondering the first two days of May have already averaged 11 degrees above the monthly normal. Everyone is happy about this pattern switch and they hope the warmer weather continues.
