Body found in Mount Morris identified as missing Springwater man

Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Livingston County announced that the Monroe County Medical Examiner has identified the body found on Friday in Mount Morris.

The body was identified as James Lowery of Springwater. The medical examiner made the identification by utilizing x-ray comparisons.

Lowery was reported missing in November 2018. Deputies say that Lowery was a known wanderer. 

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is working with State Police Investigators. The medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of Lowery’s death. 

Background:
Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call advising that a decomposing body was discovered between Mill Street and Main Street in Mount Morris on Friday.

Mount Morris Police Officers were dispatched and arrived on scene followed by several deputy sheriffs.  Following a several-hour investigation on scene, the body was sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The scene was documented by members of our Forensic Identification Unit and our Drone Unit, as well as Sheriff’s Investigators. The deceased was not immediately identifiable and required more extensive identification procedures. The typical procedures involve DNA, dental or X-Ray comparisons depending on a case by case basis.
