LA PLUME TOWNSHIP, Pa (WBRE) - A Lackawanna County community is mourning the loss of a mother after a frantic search to find the woman ends with a tragic discovery.
Kathleen Kondash, from Jessup, was reported missing Thursday night. Police said her body was discovered in La Plume Township in a wooded area near Route 6 and 11, around 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Those who live in Kondash's neighborhood were shocked to learn the news.
"For her family's sake we were happy that her body was found. At least because, it at least gives some closure to them," neighbor Jerry Crinella said.
Neighbors said the community has been on edge since Kondash was reported missing.
"It's just so sad knowing that they have two children it just makes it terrible" neighbor Ken Rupp said.
Neighbors describe this as a peaceful neighborhood and are still trying to cope with what happened.
"As far as the whole town goes, I don't recall anything like this happening," Crinella said.
"It's a very quiet, quiet community. Obviously, were all safe we know each other as we walk and wave i mean some of its just waving to them," Rupp said.
Police said that Kondash's family owned property in La Plume Township. Investigators said her vehicle was found in La Plume on Thursday night.
