Corning ice skating rink opens for the season

CORNING, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Cold weather is finally here and to give us one more reminder of that is the Corning ice skating rink.

Wednesday was opening day and staff said they were surprised with the turnout.

Beginners and experts are more than welcome to take part in the fun with different types of public skating available like sessions for all ages, sessions for families, and even private lessons.

Holiday events and special events will take place including glow-in-the-dark skating where the lights are turned off and glow-in-the-dark items are encouraged to be worn.

Adult drop-in hockey and an in-house hockey program for four to 14-year-olds are held too.

"Hopefully, the community continues to embrace the rink and enjoy the rink for what it's there for... the skating," Parks and Recreation Director Chuck King said. "It's just a good facility for everyone to enjoy."

The ice rink anticipates being open until March 14.

This weekend is expected to be very busy so it's recommended to get there early.
