ROCHESTER, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - A 53-year-old Corning man has plead guilty to possessing child pornography before a U.S. District judge.
Kevin Theil, a former employee of Corning Inc., was arrested last February after search warrants were executed at his home in Corning and at his lake house in Hammondsport.
Following the searches, a forensic examination of Theil's computer revealed 367 images of child pornography. Some of the images depicted prepubescent minors and violence.
The investigation began In November, 2016, when the Ithaca Police Department was alerted by a cooperating witness that she knew a man from Corning who had a sexual interest in children. The cooperating witness told officers that Theil showed her naked images of young girls, approximately seven or eight years old, on his iPad.
In addition, the cooperating witness stated that Theil admitted to her that he had previously sexually abused his niece on multiple occasions when she was approximately 14 years old. The cooperating witness further stated that on another occasion, Theil asked her to facilitate a sexual encounter with a minor female.
Theil faces up to 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 21.
