TUSCARORA, N.Y. (18 News) - Piles of rubble and debris sit on Route 417 in Tuscarora, from a house fire back in January.
Herb Wright, lives next door and believes the mess should have been cleaned up by now.
The fire started from a space heater, but almost four months later, the mess still sits there.
"Obviously it's not something you want living next door to you," Wright said. "It's an embarrassment to the whole township."
Wright says the stench only gets worse when it rains.
"It smells like a big burn barrel," Wright said.
Wright's main concern is the potential health hazard.
"All that stuff getting into the water, my well is right down the stream," Wright said. "To me it's a toxic waste sight."
Wright lives with his life, and they can see the view from every window upstairs.
"It's not a pretty sight, that's for sure," Wright said.
The Addison Fire Department Investigator said the owner does not have home insurance.
Leonard Causer, Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer of the Town of Tuscarora, said the debris has not been cleaned up yet because it is still under investigation.
"We have to figure out who is responsible for paying for the clean up, whether it's the home owners, the town, or the county," Causer said.
