Elmira Corning Regional Airport: Demolition on existing facility underway

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Construction workers are gutting out the existing facility of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport to build permanent ticket counters, a restaurant and administrative offices.

Aviation Director Bill Hopper says operations are working smooth in the new terminal.

Demolition on the existing facility began as soon as the new terminal opened to the public a couple weeks ago.

"We don't have a finished product here, just to make sure people are aware of that, and you know, things are just going great, so come on over, and enjoy the new terminal," Hopper said.

The entire project is looking to be completed at the end of October. Until then, airport staff are taking things step by step.

They are anticipating to begin replacing some loaned furniture with permanent ottomans next week to enhance the passenger experience.

In the next couple weeks, free WiFi and flight information on screens throughout the terminal are looking to be in function.
