Elmira man charged with menacing after reported robbery attempt

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - An 18-year-old Elmira resident was charged with menacing after police responded to a report of an attempted robbery on Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a call on the 1200 block of Lake Street at approximately 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and learned that a subject had attempted to rob a cab driver.

The driver had dropped a passenger off at a residence and an argument took place.  One of the cab's passengers exited the vehicle and went inside the residence briefly before emerging and carrying what appeared to be a pistol.  

After a search of the home, a CO2 BB gun was recovered by police. 

Following their investigation, police arrested Lonnie Brown, 18, of Elmira, who is now facing  a class A misdemeanor.
