Elmira man convicted of drug and gun charges faces life in prison

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - An Elmira man is facing life in prison, convicted of possessing and distributing cocaine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

In October, 2012, Elmira police found a pistol during a robbery investigation. The owner of the handgun had previously reported it stolen to the Addison police department.

Authorities followed up and found that 41-year-old Devaughn Salazar, also known as "Snake," acquired the handgun by trading cocaine with the thief.

Salazar then sold the gun to another person.

He is set to be sentenced on March 27.
