PINE CITY, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - The internet went into a frenzy over the weekend, when a post showing an emaciated horse surfaced.
The post has since generated thousands of shares and dozens of calls to animals shelters.
For the last 20 years, residents of Pine City have complained about a particular property located on Comfort Road.
The 3-acre residence features a run down horse farm that's houses about 20 plus horses.
Many residents complain that the land is too messy and too cramped. One resident even called it an "eyesore".
Today, animal control paid a visit to the site, armed with a search warrant.
They say this is not the first time animal control has come out to the property. And while they know the animals aren't being physically abused, they still say it's not fair to make them live in such conditions.
Some people we talked to also say they don't believe the family is malicious or means any harm to horses, they just believe they are in over their heads and need all the help they can get.
One resident says they hope to see some changes, but its not likely, especially if certain agricultural laws aren't changed.
The rules for minimal standards for housing a horse is very low. The standard animal control needs to reinforce are not that stringent, so its very easy to meet the minimum level to have livestock.
Regardless, residents say, they want to see the number of horses reduced and hope all the horses will be okay.
