Ex-boyfriend arrested in connection with Binghamton student death

BINGHAMTON (WBNG/AP) - We are learning more about the dramatic events that led to the arrest of murder suspect Orlando Tercero in Nicaragua.

Binghamton police say Tercero is wanted in the killing of Binghamton University nursing student Haley Anderson.

Tercero was taken into custody in a hospital in Nicaragua where he was was treated for self-inflicted injuries, according to news media in Nicaragua.

Pictures of the 22-year-old show him with a bandage on his head.

Authorities say Tercero and Anderson were both nursing students at Binghamton University had a previous relationship.

Anderson's body was found at an off-campus residence Friday. Her death has been ruled a homicide, though police have not given details about the slaying.

Police in Nicaragua did not say whether Tercero was being represented by a lawyer in Nicaragua.
