Victims identified in fatal crash between car and motorcycle in Horseheads

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - UPDATE (8:21 a.m.) Horseheads Police have released the identities of the two people killed in Tuesday's crash in Horseheads. 

The driver of the motorcycle was 43 year-old Mathew Matteson from Elmira, his passenger 42 year-old Harolyn Matteson, also of Elmira, according to police. 

Mathew was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Harolyn was sent to the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre where she was pronounced dead.

Horseheads Police are looking for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at (607) 739-5669


UPDATE: The operator of the vehicle has been identified as Caden F. Charnetski, 18, of Elmira, who has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while his abilities are impaired by drugs, according to Horseheads Police Department.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending blood results and accident reconstruction.

Police are not yet releasing the names of the two people who died in this crash.


Two people were killed after a head-on collision, involving a motorcycle and car on Westinghouse Road and Westlake St. in Horseheads, early Tuesday evening.

A motorcycle was traveling northbound on Watkins Road, while another car was headed southbound and was making a left hand turn on Westlake St, causing the head-on collision, according to Thomas Stickler, Chief of Police in Horseheads.

Stickler said the motorcycle driver and passenger were the two who died, after being ejected from the motorcycle.

Three people inside the car suffered minor injuries. Our 18 news reporter on scene was told by spectators that minors were reportedly inside the car. The Horseheads Police Department is not able to confirm that at this time.

Charges are pending.
