CATON, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Thanks to Fishing Adventures in Caton a new addition to Corning Vacation Rentals people can make reservations to stay or even just to go fishing for the day.
"This pond was built in 2011," says Russell Diederich, Proprietor of Corning Vacation Rentals, "and we've been stocking fish in here ever since, we put in fish in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018."
According to Diederich, there are nearly 1000 fish in the pond on the property so I decided I would try to catch a few.
Whether you're a pro fisherman of just an amateur like myself, you can head to Corning Vacation Rentals where you're guaranteed to catch a few fish. They have nearly 7 different species of fish available to catch including a hybrid bluegill, which is a cross between the larger male blue gill and the smaller sunfish. Diederich says it's a great pan fish and great for kids to catch.
"We have channel catfish, probably about 400," Diederich says, "all different sizes, we also put in a variety of trout species, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Golden Trout so some of the local fisherman that's their go to thing is trout."
If you're not that interested in fishing but still enjoy the outdoors there's plenty more to do here.
"While you're staying here if you're looking for some outdoor adventure things to do, I'm a New York State Licensed guide for hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping," Diederich says.
The biggest thing that Diederich wants to make known is that going to visit this location is all about convenience. "Here in a fishing preserve you don't need to bring anything. You can come you don't need a license, we will supply you with fishing poles, bait, even stuff to feed the fish."
And he wasn't kidding when he says you are guaranteed to catch a fish, in the middle of the interview I got a fish on my line which happened to be a channel catfish.
